On January 14, 2013, a newly hired security guard at The
Chatfield School in Lapeer, Michigan left a gun unattended in a school restroom.
The security guard, a former policeman, had been hired in
the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, to increase safety at
The Chatfield School.
In response to the Newton tragedy, the NRA called for armed
guards in every school as opposed to stricter gun regulations.
